The Imo State government has flagged off the distribution of Lockers, Chairs, School Uniforms and other learning materials to pupils and students in public Schools in all the LGAs of the State.
While flagging off the exercise at Imo City College,
Wetheral road, Owerri and Ikenegbu Girls School, Owerri, the wife of the
governor, Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha said education remains a vital
instrument to the development of a child which explains why the State
government made it free in the State
Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha said the aim of the stipend
was to encourage Imo children and urged them to be guided by hard work,
honesty, respect for elders, service to their fatherland and other values to
succeed.
Distributing the learning materials and uniform to team
leaders and desk officers assigned to the 27 LGAs of the State earlier in her
office, the wife of the governor urged them to be committed to the task
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Adaobi Obasi, the
Chairman Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Uche Ejiogu and the
Sole Administrator of Owerri Municipal, Mr. Paschal Ujah challenged the
students to take their studies seriously, be of good moral conduct, shun
cultism and examination malpractices, as a way of appreciating the kind
gestures of the governor
The Principal of Imo City School, Mr. Akalazu E N and his
Ikenegbu Girls Secondary School counterpart, Dr. Chinyere Nze advised the students not to toil
with the opportunity of the free education and thanked the State government for
its show of love and care to Imo people
The head boy of Imo City School, Master Favour Ndudim,
the head girl, Miss Nnah and that of Ikenegbu Girls Secondary School, Miss
Lilian Joseph promised to be hardworking, respectful and honest and prayed God
to grant the State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha the strength and wisdom to
pilot the affairs of the government
Highpoint of the occasion was the demonstration of the
payment of the stipend to the pupils and students in the Schools
