IMO FIRST LADY URGES WORKERS TO ASSIST IN MAKING IMO BETTER

The wife of the governor of Imo State, Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha has called on civil servants in the State to work hard towards making Imo State better than any other State in Nigeria.

Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha made this call in an occasion organized by the Ministry of Finance; Imo State tagged ‘2013 Staff Quarterly Forum of the ministry at the State Secretariat, Port Harcourt road, Owerri

She described the Forum as a right step in the right direction adding that it is good to appreciate good works done and commended the Commissioner for Finance, Deacon Chike Okafor for the wonderful initiative

The Imo first lady noted that this is among those things to be noticed when the present government says Imo must be better and enjoined other ministries and commissioners to emulate same.

In his address, the Commissioner for Finance, Deacon Chike Okafor said the essence of the forum which is done every quarterly was to bring the management and Staff together for a free heart to heart appraisal of the events, actions, process and procedures of the ministry without fear and chart the way forward

Deacon Chike Okafor further stated that the Ministry used this edition of the Staff Quarterly Forum to recognize and appreciate the distinguished services rendered to the State by some past Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries, namely: For Commissioner, Dr. Henry Njoku 1992-1993, Mrs. A.A. Ugorji 1998-1999, Chief Ngozi Amaliri 1999-2003, Chief Charles Ekweghi 2003-2007, while for Permanent 
Secretaries: Chief Evans Uzokwe 2007-2008, Chief C. C. Okoye 2000-2006, Elder V.U. Onyeagoro and Mrs. Nkechi Onumajuru

Speaking, Mrs. Nkechi Onumajulu in her dual capacity at the occasion as the Head of Service Imo State and as a recipient of the award, having served as Permanent Secretary of the ministry thanked them for the honour done on her and promised that her office will in no distant time commence an in-house training / orientation for workers in the ministries in order to improve productivity of workers in the State

In his remarks, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Sir Jude Ejiogu while describing the ceremony as a good gesture and Commissioner Chike Okafor as a God given one, who is determined to work, urged the State Civil servants to have patient with the government of Imo State as good things are coming

In their welcome speeches, the Accountant General of Imo State, Sir George Eche and the acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Opara O.I.O while welcoming all to the occasion thanked God for the person of the Commissioner, Deacon Chike Okafor for the wonderful work he is doing in the State and ask him not relent

Responding on behalf of the recipients, Sir Evans Uzoukwu, Prof Henry Njoku, Dr. Ngozi Amaliri and Mrs. Nkechi Onumajulu expressed their excitement for being appreciated after serving in office and  commended the ministry for the wonderful gesture adding that this shows positive signal in Owelle Rochas  Okorocha’s administration whom they described as compassionate man and a philanthropist

They advised civil servants in the State to learn a lesson from the ceremony of the day as there is a reward in hard work and urged them to work earnestly in remembrance that there will be a tomorrow


The occasion featured presentation of gift items to the past Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries of the ministries and appreciation of the sponsors: Zenith bank, Diamond bank, Fidelity bank FCMB, DFIC, among others.
