Imo State government has awarded the Chevron Nigeria Limited
the best Oil and Gas Company in Community development for the year, 2012.

Okorocha while representing the governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha disclosed this
during the commissioning ceremony of the Chest Clinic built by the Chevron Oils
PLC under the auspices of Agbami Field partners at Imo State University
Teaching Hospital Orlu recently.
Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha said the Chevron merited this
award with their commitment and partnership with State Government in
establishing the Chest Clinic, building ultra modern infectious disease clinic,
construction of ICT center at FUTO, de-worming of primary School children, involvement
in the roll-back malaria with the distribution of treated mosquito nets, etc.
The Imo first lady urged other Oil companies to emulate the
gestures of Chevron Oils Limited in
reciprocating the kind gestures of their host communities who have suffered
environmental hazards due to oil exploration by investing part of their
resources in the areas.
In his address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe
Obi-Njoku said with the establishment of the Chest clinic, Tuberculosis which
used to be a death sentence can now be diagonised and treated, hence he called
on Imo citizens to make good use of the facility.
He noted that prevention is better than cure, hence he advised
people that in order to avoid the disease, rooms should not be overcrowded,
children should be immunized regularly, houses should be adequately ventilated
and neat.
Speaking, the T.C. Chairman of Orlu LGA, Barr. Ifeanyi Olumba
thanked both the State government and the donor agencies for citing the project
at Orlu and assured of their preparedness to enlighten the people on the
importance and also offer security to the center
The Chief Medical Director IMSUTH, Dr. Alex Chukwulebe
disclosed that among the donations made to IMSUTH so far none has reached in
magnitude level like the Chest Clinic by Chevron PLC as they furnished the lab,
the X-ray Dept, the clinics and stocked the pharmacy with TB drugs for free
treatment.
The MD of Star Deep Waters, Mr. Ken Sampell said his company
with Famfa Oils and Petrobras partnered with Agbami Field to add value to the
life of the people adding that the Chest clinic is another aspect of their
contribution towards improving the health care of Nigerian citizens.
In their separate remarks the representatives of Famfa Oils
and Petrobras noted that in addition to the Chest clinic and science
laboratories, awareness proves on HIV/AIDs, malaria and other diseases have
been implemented by the Agbami partners and pledged their continued support to
the State government.
