The wife of the governor, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha has flagged-off of
a free computer training programme for teachers in the State.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony held at the Owerri Municipal hall recently, she said the programme will make teachers in the State
computer literate which will arm them to impart sound knowledge on the pupils
to enable them face future challenges.
She commended the donors of the learning materials and the
Management of Systematic – B/Technologies for making the Rescue Laptops
affordable to the teachers and advised the teachers to take the training
seriously.
She therefore called on the public, good spirited
individuals, corporate and Non Governmental Organizations to compliment the
efforts of the State government towards making education free and compulsory in
the State.
In her address, the Chairman of Imo State Universal Basic
Education Board, Mrs. Uche Ejiogu said the programme is one of the Board’s
efforts in collaboration with Systematic – B/Technologies to compliment the
efforts of the State government towards providing the Imo Child with learning
opportunities
In his remarks, the T.C. Chairman of Owerri Municipal
Council, Chief Jonatha Anukam said the programme will enable teachers in the
State to compete favourably with their counterparts in other States of the
federation.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the Company, Chief
I B Okafor said the training they are giving the teachers is in answer to the
clarion call of his Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha to indigenes of Imo State to come
and contribute to the development of education in the State.
He said the free computer training to Imo teachers is based
on the belief that a well trained teacher can impart knowledge better to the
pupils than a novice , hence he assured that the training exercise will get to
the 27 local government areas in the State after the flag-off so that nobody
will be denied the opportunity
Highlights of the occasion were the official flag-off of the
“rescue Laptops by the wife of the governor and the presentation of laptops to
teachers.
